ST. CLAIR 3, CANADORE 1

The St. Clair men's volleyball team had a solid weekend as they travelled to North Bay and came home with a well earned split.

On Saturday, the Saints defeated the Canadore Panthers by a score of 3-1. Game scores for St. Clair were 25-20, 21-25, 25-12 and 25-17. Connor West (Lethbridge) led the way for St. Clair with 13 kills, two aces, one block and 11 digs. Jordan Lynch (Kennedy) also had a big game with 11 kills, two blocks and eight digs.

On Sunday, St. Clair took on the top ranked team in Canada, the Nipissing Lakers, and almost came away with a huge upset but fell short losing 3-2 in an exciting back and forth match. After  getting off to a slow start and dropping the first game 25-14 they men bounced back to take the second game 25-20. Nipissing narrowly won the third game 29-27 in a barn burner. Once again, St. Clair responded in the fourth game winning 25-23. Nipissing got off to a strong start in the fifth and deciding game and the Saints could not come back losing 15-9. Travis Wigle (Kingsville) was the top point getter with nine kills, one ace and six stuff blocks. West was right behind him  15 kills and one block. Curtis Loch (Belle River) also had a great match with 13 kills, one stuff block and seven digs.

The men are now 3-3 on the season with three games remaining in the semester. Last season the Saints only won one match so the team is off to a great start this year and are going to be fighting for a playoff spot in the tough OCAA West Division.

The team is next in action on Sunday, November 25 when they host they Niagara Knights at the Healthplex at the Thames Campus in Chatham at 2 p.m. Admission is free and all fans will receive a free hot dog and drink.
