FANSHAWE 3, ST. CLAIR 1

The Fanshawe Falcons men's volleyball team played host to the St. Clair Saints on Wednesday night. The Falcons came out on top in the must win matchup, winning 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 15-25, 25-17). The Falcons improve to 6-7 on the season, now just one win behind Mohawk, who holds the final playoff spot.

Fanshawe faced a 13-10 deficit in the first set before rallying and winning on a kill from freshman Kyle Weber. They then jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second set, enroute to an 11-point victory and a two-set lead. St. Clair came back in the third, cruising to a 25-15 win. After trading points early in the fourth set, Falcons setter Devin Atkinson went on a serving run of six to take control of the match.

Fanshawe head coach Josh Westgate was impressed with how his team played for most of the match and is enjoying the tight playoff race. "We played well in the first two sets; St. Clair made a change to their lineup which helped them in the third. We needed more sense of urgency and came back and played well in the fourth. We are only one win out and every game matters, so we're in playoff mode now which is nice."

Point leaders for Fanshawe were Derek Braun with 15 (13 kills, two blocks) and Jacob Roorda with 12 (9 kills, one ace, two blocks). Tom Charbonneau had 14 points (nine kills, two aces, three blocks) for St. Clair.

The Falcons travel to Ancaster on Friday to play in a tough match against the Redeemer Royals (10-2).
