LOYALIST 3, GEORGIAN 1

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's volleyball team put up a good fight Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre but it wasn't enough to overcome the visiting Loyalist Lancers in their first game of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) regular season.

The Grizzlies showed some nerves early playing in front of a loud home crowd in Barrie and it showed as Georgian fell behind early and were unable to turn it around, dropping the first set 25-18.

The rest of the way was a battle between both teams who were looking for that important first win of the season. Georgian battled back in the second set taking it 25-22 to even the score at a set apiece.

The next two sets were both evenly played and came right down to the wire but in both instances it was the Lancers who were able to get the better of the Grizzlies taking the final two sets 25-22 and 25-23 to win the match by a 3-1 score.

It was a pair of sophomore's who led the Grizzlies offensively with both Lyndon Sonego (Barrie) and Jason Grimm (Orangeville) scoring 15 kills each. Grimm was particularly strong from the line with four serving aces which was the most by either team.

Jacob White (Brockville) was a force for the Lancers scoring 22 kills.

The Grizzlies will be on the road next weekend when they travel to Ottawa to face the Algonquin Thunder on Friday and the La Cité Coyotes on Saturday. Georgian's next home game is on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host the Fleming Knights at 3 p.m.
