MOHAWK 3, SHERIDAN 1

HAMILTON, Ont. - Mohawk's volleyball teams scored a pair of wins over Sheridan at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre Thursday (Oct. 31).

The Mountaineer men won 25-20, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, to even their OCAA record at 1-1. It was the first match of the season for the Bruins.

Mohawk's 7-foot-2 Bryce Marcussen, the first-year middle/right side from Strathroy, led the home side's offence with 16 kills and five stuff blocks. Brad Regier (Zurich) had 16 kills and two blocks, Trevor McLaughlin (Kitchener) contributed 11 kills and one block and Eric Danecke (Kitchener) registered eight kills and two blocks.

For Sheridan, Josh Butler (London) had 13 kills and three blocks, while Jeremy Fantin (Mississauga) contributed eight kills and two blocks.

Meanwhile, the Mohawk women swept Sheridan 25-15, 25-19, 26-24.

Julie Gagnon (Hamilton) had 11 kills for the Mountaineers. Kaylee Duncan (Mt. Albert) had six kills and four blocks, Chi Chi Chuks-Mady (Hamilton) scored eight kills and one service ace and Alexandra Pulham (Brantford) had five kills, two aces and two blocks for the 1-1 Mountaineers.

For the Bruins, 0-1, Sommer Maltby (Burlington) had five kills and three aces and Jordie Bevan (Oakville) had seven kills.
