NIAGARA 3, REDEEMER 1

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Redeemer Royals entertained the top team in the province on Wednesday night as the Niagara Knights made the short trip to Ancaster for their first meeting of the season.

The Knights were recently crowned No. 2 in Canada and flexed their muscles in a 3-1 win over the Royals. With the loss, Redeemer's record falls to 4-2.

Despite matching up against the top team in the OCAA, the Royals held their own taking the first set 25-22 and dropping the second and third sets in close games. Redeemer held the lead late in both the second and third sets but couldn't close them out falling 25-22 and 25-19.

In the fourth set, Niagara set the tone quick and had little trouble taking the final game 25-16.

Cameron Grooenendijk led Redeemer with 12 total kills while Eric Heidbuurt added 11. Jake Klassen had 35 assists for the Royals.

OUA transfer Daniel Groenveld had 23 kills for the Knights.

The Royals have a short turnaround as they travel to Fanshawe College on Friday to take on the Falcons in London.
