FANSHAWE 3, SHERIDAN 0

LONDON, Ont. - On Sunday afternoon, the Fanshawe men's volleyball team (5-2) defeated the Sheridan Bruins (0-6) in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-16). Fanshawe currently sits in fourth place in the OCAA West Division and is ranked 13th in all of Canada.

The Falcons came out on a roll in first set of Sunday's match, forcing the Bruins to take a timeout with the score just 5-0. Sheridan took their second timeout at 10-2, with all the momentum in the Falcons favour. Sophomore Jacob Roorda dominated the middle throwing up a huge block and converting on all four sets he received. Fanshawe won the first set by a final score of 25-14.

Fanshawe didn't let up in the second, starting the set on a 6-1 run, again causing an early timeout for the Bruins. Sheridan battled back to within two behind left side Jeremy Fantin, who had four kills in the set. With the game close, Fanshawe's defence took over and the Falcons won the second set 25-19.

Sheridan wasn't ready to give up and jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. The Falcons slowly crept back and with the game tied at nine, Derek Braun blocked back-to-back attacks and the momentum shifted back to Fanshawe's favour. The Falcons finished the game on a 12-3 run, winning by a final score of 25-16.

Fanshawe's Mathieu Poulin finished the three set match with 15 points (14 kills, one ace), bringing his last two match total to an impressive 46. Sheridan's Jeremy Fantin finished with 12 points for the Bruins.

Next up, Fanshawe plays in Niagara on Friday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. versus the CCAA No. 2 nationally ranked Knights (7-0).
