DURHAM 3, CANADORE 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers varsity men's volleyball team was unable to defeat a very strong Durham Lords team in the Education Centre gymnasium, losing in four sets today.

Candore's top scorer was Dan Trudel with 12 points, including nine kills.

The Canadore Panthers regrouped this week after losing two games in a row last weekend to the Georgian Grizzlies and the Seneca Sting on the road, and make a big switch in their line-up, using their regular setter, Jordan Gardiner, as the libero to help create a stronger defence.

The men started off strong, knowing that they were playing the strong, third-place team in the East Division, but fell short in a very close 25-23 loss followed by a loss in the second with a score of 25-15. In the third set, they worked together and were victorious, winning 26-24 before finally falling in the fourth set with a score of 25-20.

Canadore head coach Tim Ryan, who sported some retro wear before their game said, "I thought the team did very well with a top-ranked Durham College team, pushing them to the fourth set, playing with our new setter, Brian Kennedy. Jordan played amazing, posting a huge amount of digs."

Panthers player of the game Brian Kennedy said, "Everybody was contributing, all lines were firing. There's obviously some things we want to work on but the fundamentals were there. We battled for each point, but in the end, we just couldn't pull it off."

With the victory the Lords extend their current winning streak to five games and improved to 6-1 on the season. Durham stands in a logjam atop the standings of the OCAA East region tied with George Brown, Algonquin and Loyalist for first place.

First place will be on the line as the Lords head to Georgian College on Friday, Nov. 29 as they look to continue their winning ways.
