DURHAM 3, LOYALIST 1

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team won their eighth straight conference game with a 3-1 victory over the Loyalist Lancers on Thursday night.

Set scores in entertaining match were 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-21.

The Lords could not duplicate their performance against Loyalist in Belleville where they swept the Lancers 3-0, but they managed to pull out the narrow victory with strong defence at the net and timely kills.

In his return to the Lords line-up, Paul Rapos (Oshawa, Ont.) had 13 kills on 24 attempts to lead the offence in scoring. Brad VanHartingsveldt (Newcastle, Ont.) also had a big night with 12 kills on 18 attempts. Riley McAllister (Whitby, Ont.) registered 36 assists in the win.

Loyalist's Jacob White had 22 kills to lead all scorers while Kam FungTai had 43 assists.

Emotions were high with both teams leaving it all on the court battling for every point.

The Lords move a half game ahead of Algonquin for first place in the OCAA East region with a 9-1 record. Loyalist is in fourth place at 6-4 but have suffered three straight losses.

Durham will be looking to continue their winning streak on Saturday when they head to North York to take on the Seneca Sting. Game time is at 3 p.m. against the 2-7 Sting.
