ALGONQUIN 3, CANADORE 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers men's varsity volleyball team took a hard loss to the first place team, the Algonquin Thunder, today in their first game of second semester at the Education Centre gymnasium.

Scores were 18-25, 25-14, 19-25, 20-25 in favour of Algonquin.

The top scorer for Candore was Charlie Hancock, with 19 points comprised of 15 kills, three serving aces and one block.

Canadore head coach Tim Ryan says, "My team struggled with passing and serving where Algonquin barely missed any serves and we were missing three to four serves a set, and as a team, our passing average was way too long to be competing against a strong Algonquin team, who are the number one team in the East."

Mitch Garner, who was put on the court when Hancock got injured in the first play of the game, was able to acquire five points during his playing time, including four kills, and was player of the game.

Panthers setter, Jordan Gardiner, was optimistic about how the team played. "We played really well for our first game back but we made too many mistakes compared to the other team."
