BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team rebounded in a big way Friday night. After dropping their first game of 2014 last weekend, the Grizzlies knocked off the first place team in the East Division the Seneca Sting in impressive fashion.

Georgian defended its home court with a strong start winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18.  The Sting who had only one blemish on their record coming into the game rebounded in the third set 25-17 but the Grizzlies proved this was their night with a dominating 25-14 final set win to claim the 3-1 victory.

Allison Marshall (Orillia) now has double digits in points in five of her six games after leading the team with 12 including three big stuff blocks to help the Grizzlies to victory. Erin McClean (Barrie) also continued her strong play with an eight-point effort.

The Grizzlies now have an 11-3 record on the season and are just half a game back of the Sting who have a game in hand with an 11-2 record.

Georgian's men's team continued their strong play and extended their win streak to three with a 3-1 win over the Sting.

After dropping a tight first set 25-22, the Grizzlies took control winning three straight 25-16, 25-18 and 25-23 to win the match.

The Grizzlies enjoyed a big effort from sophomore Jason Grimm (Orangeville) who led the team with 20 points including 16 points while last week's Georgian Athlete of the Week Lyndon Sonego (Barrie) had a 15-point effort.

With an 8-6 record on the season, the Grizzlies are gaining ground on a pair of teams ahead of them in the standings as they sit in fifth place in the East Division with four games remaining in the OCAA regular season.

The Grizzlies will play a pair of big games at Durham this coming Thursday before returning home for a match against the La Cité Coyotes on Sunday at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
