DURHAM 3, GEORGE BROWN 0

OSHAWA, Ont. - Led by a pair of 10-kill efforts from Jeremy Hoekstra and Brad VanHartingsveldt, the Durham College men's volleyball earned its 11th-straight victory following a 3-0 sweep of George Brown Huskies on Thursday night at CRWC.

Durham (12-1) moved a half-game ahead of the idle Algonquin Thunder (11-1) for top spot in the OCAA East region after capturing the match behind set scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-17. Durham is 7-0 on home court this season.

Hoekstra (Cobourg, Ont.) came up big on his own "Beard Night", converting 10 kills on 13 attempts for a .769 hitting percentage. The fourth-year senior got the crowd on their feet in the first set as he picked up the first and last points to lead Durham to a 25-23 victory.

Setter Riley McAllister (Oshawa, Ont.) looked to his favourite target VanHartingveldt (Newcastle, Ont.) throughout the game as he had 27 kill attempts. VanHartingveldt registered 10 kills in the win, including a number of strikes in key situations to stop George Brown rallies. McAllister ended the night with 33 assists.

Petrus Kuypers (Haydon, Ont.) had six kills and four blocks while Paul Rapos (Oshawa, Ont.) and Alex van Staalduinen (Peterborough, Ont.) combined for 18 kills. Rapos also had a strong defensive effort with 11 digs.

George Brown big-man Sean Bennett was a force for the Huskies up the middle racking up seven blocks. Unfortunately for George Brown, they could not find a way to put the ball down in the open court as they had a kill percentage of .315.

Durham and George Brown split the season series as the Huskies gave the Lords their lone loss in Toronto earlier in the year.

In Durham's 11-game winning streak they have only dropped five of 38 sets.

The Lords will be back at home on the weekend as they host the Canadore Panthers (5-7) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
