ALGONQUIN 3, SENECA 0

NORTH YORK, Ont. - In a team game, one player stood out on Friday evening.

Unfortunately for the Seneca Sting men's volleyball team, that player was on the other side of the net.

Algonquin's Philippe Yeldon had a match-high 22 kills on just 31 attempts, nearly doubling the 13 kills the Sting had as a team. As a team, the Thunder had 38 kills.

The Sting dropped three straight sets to the Algonquin Thunder by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-15. The win was the 12th in a row for the Thunder while the Sting fell for the fifth straight match.

Yeldon was nearly unstoppable all night long, continually picking apart the Sting's defence at the net and in the backcourt. Even with Yeldon in the back row, it was a threat, compiling a pair of aces with a thunderous spin serve which caused problems for the Sting return game. Yeldon leads the OCAA in scoring while sitting in the top three in kills per set and attack percentage.

Ryan Sheerahamed (Markham, Ont.) had a team-high five kills for the Sting, who fell to 2-12 with the loss. Attack leader David Lyon (Thailand) had just three kills on 10 attempts while scoring the only two blocks of the evening for the Sting. Evan McMillan (Greenbank, Ont.) had the lone ace for the Sting.

The Sting get back in action tomorrow night as they welcome the La Cité Coyotes at 8 p.m.
