SENECA 3, LA CITE 0

NORTH YORK, Ont. - For the first time all season, the Seneca Sting men's volleyball team celebrated a three-set victory. The win Saturday night came at the expense of the visiting La Cité Coyotes as the Sting won by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22.

There was some concern whether the match scheduled for 8 p.m. would even happen due to snowy travel conditions for the Coyotes with more snow in the forecast. It was just a week earlier that the Coyotes men's basketball team was scheduled to play at Seneca, but road conditions postponed that game for two weeks.

With a team which had six out of their 10 players listed as being in their first year of eligibility, it was the experience of the sophomores and third year players which carried the Sting.

David Lyon (Thailand), a member of the Lethbridge Kodiaks for two seasons, continued to lead the Sting offensively, compiling 18 kills on 35 attempts. Lyon also led the Sting with seven digs.

Jordan Darlington (Ajax, Ont.) continued to present match-up problems out of the middle with 10 kills and three blocks while adding two aces. Ryan Sheerahamed (Markham, Ont.) added eight kills.

The leadership was important as the teams battled to a 23-23 tie in the opening set before the Sting scored the final two points. The Sting called on the aforementioned players in the third set after watching the Coyotes claw back from a 23-14 deficit to make things interesting.

Keith Marier led La Cité with 13 kills on 25 attempts.

The Sting travel to Peterborough, Ont., for matches against Fleming, Friday at 8 p.m. followed by a match against Trent, Saturday at 3 p.m.
