NIAGARA 3, MOHAWK 2

WINDSOR, Ont. - Niagara College kicked off the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship with an upset win over top-seeded Mohawk with a 3-2 win Friday afternoon at the St. Clair SportsPlex.

Mohawk started well with a 25-18 opening set win but the Knights pulled ahead winning the next two sets 25-19 and 25-22. The Mountaineers won the fourth set 25-18 forcing a fifth set. But Niagara had the hot hand winning the deciding frame 15-12.

Niagara third-year outside hitter Jeff Scott (Georgetown, Ont.) led the Knights with 16 kills adding four stuff blocks in the match. Rookie outside hitter Cole Jordan (London, Ont.) chipped in with 12 kills in the match to help Niagara to the win.

Third-year outside hitter Trevor McLaughlin (Kitchener, Ont.) led Mohawk with 13 kills in the loss.

Niagara advances to the semi-finals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
