CANADORE 3, GEORGIAN 1

BARRIE, Ont. - It was a big night for the Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team as they hosted the Canadore Panthers on Saturday at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

Canadore was one of only two teams to defeat Georgian this season and with a lock on first place in their sights it was a great time for Grizzlies to get back at the Panthers.

Georgian came out determined but they found a tough opponent in Canadore who wasn't going to hand anything to the Grizzlies.

The first set came down to the wire with the Grizzlies taking it in extra points. After the Panthers responded with a win in the second set, the Grizzlies were the more determined group taking the next two sets to win the match 3-1 (27-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23).

Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) was tremendous for the Grizzlies scoring a season-high 19 points while Kelsey Buckley (Midland, Ont.) had 12 points and Mackenzie Roy (Barrie, Ont.) had 35 assists.

The win guarantees the Grizzlies will finish first in the OCAA east division standings which grants them a bye into the OCAA championship.

It was a tough game for the Grizzlies men's team as each point becomes more critical in the standings.

Georgian put forth a great effort but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Panthers 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 28-26).

Matt Boucher (Collingwood, Ont.) had a team-high 13 points for the Grizzlies while Darien Haynes (Barrie, Ont.) had 12 points in his seventh straight game with double digit point totals.

The loss puts the Grizzlies in a tie for the sixth and final playoff spot with the Algonquin Thunder, with each team having one game remaining on their schedule.

The Grizzlies will play their final regular season games on Saturday, Feb. 14 when they host the Loyalist Lancers at the Georgian Athletic Centre.
