SHERIDAN 73, HUMBER 51 (FINAL)

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Three days after suffering their first loss on their home floor in nearly three years, the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (5-6, 1-1 OCAA) responded with their first win of the young OCAA West season, 73-51 over Humber.

"I'm extremely proud of the way our team rose to the occasion and competed tonight," interim head coach Veneshia Morrison. "Things didn't go our way on Wednesday night, but we didn't let that hold us back. Having said that, this is still just game two of a long season and there are still a number areas where we can and must improve."

Humber got off to a quick start, taking an early 10-8 lead before a 13-2 Sheridan run helped give the Lady Bruins a 21-13 lead at the end of the first.

They fell behind again early in the second quarter, as Humber opened the second frame on a 10-0 run, but would only score four more points for the remainder of the half as 16-4 run restored the double-blue's double digit advantage at the half.

The second half opened with another Sheridan run -- this time 11-2 -- that gave the Lady Bruins a 19-point edge.

For the remainder of the game, Humber tried to chip away at their deficit but could never get any closer than 12.

Nakia Arthur had a game-high 31 points to go with 12 rebounds, while Michelle Asare was also in double-figures with 21.

The Lady Bruins now have a few days off before travelling to Mohawk on November 11.

Blue notes: After their last home loss, 58-50 on December 30, 2008 against Laurier, the Lady Bruins rebounded with 25 straight wins before their loss to Fanshawe on Wednesday.
