NIAGARA 78, SHERIDAN 67 (FINAL)

WELLAND, Ont. (November 30) - For the majority of the contest the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (9-7, 6-2 OCAA) held strong, but an untimely fourth quarter shooting slump - where they scored only 11 points and hit just one shot in the final five minutes - cost them in a 78-67 loss to Niagara.

"We just didn't execute the way we needed to tonight," interim head coach Veneshia Morrison said. "Particularly in the fourth quarter, we just did not shoot the ball well enough. We were able to get some good looks, but that's basketball sometimes."

After trailing 9-3 to start the game, the double-blue was able to narrow the gap and trimmed their deficit to one, 16-15, at the end of the first period.

A 14-7 run to open the second quarter gave them a 29-23 edge, but Niagara responded with a 12-4 run to close the half and Sheridan trailed 37-34 at intermission.

The third quarter was much of the same, with the Lady Bruins taking a quick lead before Niagara battled back to tie. The two clubs then volleyed the lead back and forth, with the home side clinging to a 57-56 advantage entering the final 10 minutes.

Tied at 64, Niagara went on an 8-0 run that gave them the margin they needed to pull away and seal up the win.

Nakia Arthur had a season-high 37 points while Michelle Asare chipped in with 10.

They will close out the first semester by hosting Redeemer on Saturday at 6pm .

Blue notes: The game featured 18 lead changes and seven ties.
