FANSHAWE 62, LOYALIST 35 (FINAL)

TORONTO - A fearsome offensive attack by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association's (OCAA) West Region Champions, the Fanshawe Falcons, and poor shooting by the No. 4-seeded Loyalist Lancers made for a blowout finish to Day 1 at the 2012 adidas/VSP Sports OCAA Women's Basketball Championship hosted by Seneca College.  The Falcons took an early lead and never looked back in their 62-35 quarter-final win over the Lancers.

The Falcons showcased a balanced attack, exploding for 29 points in the second quarter, fueled by strong performances from OCAA All-Star Natasha Amo, of Toronto, who notched nine points, Lakeside, Ont.'s Whitney Harris and London, Ont.'s Phyna Lim, who both recorded a game-high 10 points. Janine DeLeon, of Guelph, Ont., who earlier in the day was named to the OCAA All-Rookie Team added five points for the Falcons.  Harris was named adidas/VSP Sports Player of the Game for the Falcons.

Loyalist's Jenni Thompson, of Belleville, Ont., today named OCAA East Region Rookie of the Year, scored a team-high nine points for the Lancers but struggled from the field shooting 2-for-10.  Loyalist's shooting game could not find its groove finishing 13-for-47 on the game or less than 28 percent. By comparison, the Falcons shot 41 percent for the game.  Lancers second-year guard-forward Haley Sisler, of Belleville, Ont., was named Player of the Game for Loyalist recording eight points and four steals.

The Falcons advance to face the Seneca Sting in one of tomorrow night's OCAA Championship semi-final match-ups at 8 p.m.  The other semi-final, which will precede the Sting/Falcons game, will feature the George Brown Huskies versus the Algonquin Thunder at 6 p.m. at Seneca's Newnham Gymnasium (Building G, Lower Level).

Loyalist will face Sheridan in the Back Door Bronze game at 3 p.m.
