SENECA 69, SENECA 49 (FINAL)

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team fought hard in their regular season finale but came up a little short in the end as they dropped a 69-49 decision to the nationally ranked Seneca Sting.

Although both teams had clinched second (Seneca) and fifth (Durham) place heading into the match, the game was rough with each team playing hard until the final buzzer.

Seneca held a one-point lead after one quarter and a 32-27 lead at halftime, but they cruised in the second half to pick up the 20-point victory.

After scoring back-to-back 100-point games, Durham's defence did a good job of containing the Sting's offensive attack for the majority of the game.

Erin Emery, who played her last game on home court, led Durham in scoring with 15 points. She finishes the year scoring 18.4 points per game (league totals will be tallied by Thursday morning). She finishes her career with 1,067 career points, third on the OCAA all-time scoring charts.

Kenesha Stinchcombe-Brown had nine points for Durham while Kelsey Hare had eight points with five rebounds.

Leading the way for Seneca was Tamara Nembhard with 14 points and nine rebounds while Samantha Evans had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Durham finishes the year with a 7-9 record and in fifth place in the OCAA east region. They will travel to Humber College on Saturday, February 25 for an OCAA championship qualifying match. Game time in Etobicoke is 1 p.m.

Seneca will host the OCAA Championship from March 1-3, 2012.
