ALGONQUIN 83, GEORGIAN 52

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team were looking for an upset Friday night of the Algonquin Thunder but it was not to be, falling 83-52 at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.

The undefeated Thunder came out firing early and the Grizzlies got behind 22-10 after the first quarter. The Grizzlies rebounded in the second scoring 20 points but still trailed the Thunder 44-30 at the half. The Thunder continued their solid play and were able to pull away in the second half.

Despite the loss, Grizzlies freshman Agnes Bartosik once again had a good game putting up a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kara and Kasey Faulkner both had eight points for Georgian.

The Thunder outmatched the Grizzlies with a balanced scoring attack, with 10 different players scoring points.

2011 CCAA all-Canadian Sandre Bascoe had 16 points while second year guard Holly Ryerse had 15 points for Algonquin.

The Thunder keep rolling and are now 5-0 to start the OCAA campaign while the Grizzlies are still looking for their first victory with an 0-5 record.

The Grizzlies will play their next three games on the road starting next week when they face the Durham Lords. The next home game for Georgian will be on Wednesday, December 5 when they host the Seneca Sting at 6 p.m.
