LOYALIST 72, DURHAM 35

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - It was a tough night for the Durham College women's basketball team as they dropped a 72-35 decision to the Loyalist Lancers in Belleville.

The Lords defence had no answer for Jenni Thompson who had 27 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the win. Thompson entered the night averaging 16.2 points per game, third in OCAA East region scoring.

Thompson scored 18 of her points in the first half, one more than the entire Durham roster combined. Loyalist held a 42-17 lead after 20 minutes. The Lancers would continue dominate in the second half, outscoring Durham 30-18 to cruise to their tenth win of the year.

Loyalist was lethal from beyond the arc, going on to outscore Durham 30-0 in three pointers. Thompson and Martine Gauvin each went 4-of-9 from three-point range.

Durham's top scorer was Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.), who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Hare had trouble with the Lancer defence as she had a game-high six turnovers. Stephanie Legebokoff (Windsor, Ont.) finished the game with six points and four rebounds.

Loyalist has won five of their last six games and is in third place in the OCAA East region with a 10-5 record. Durham has dropped three straight decisions and is in ninth place with a 3-12 record.

Durham will close out their regular season with three straight home games at the CRWC. Their next action is on Tuesday, Feb. 12 against the Fleming Knights (5-9).
