ALGONQUIN 65, GEORGIAN 23

The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's basketball teams headed east to Ottawa for a set of games against Algonquin and La Cite this past weekend.

The men's team opened up against one of the top teams in the division in the Algonquin Thunder.

The Grizzlies, as they have done all season, gave their opponents all they could handle. Trailing by just one point 34-33 at halftime the Grizzlies went shot for shot in the third quarter with the Thunder setting up a big fourth quarter with the game 51-50.

As has been the story too often for the Grizzlies this season after battling all game the Thunder were able to pull away late to claim a 72-64 victory. Tevin Goodridge led Georgian in scoring with 12 points.

Next up for the Grizzlies was a match against the La Cite Coyotes on Sunday afternoon. Trailing by seven points after the first quarter, Georgian battled back into the game but in the end fell short falling 81-76.

Despite the loss the Grizzlies got a good effort out of Brandon Seales who led the team with 16 points and also had four rebounds.

The Grizzlies women's team played their lone game against the undefeated Algonquin Thunder on Saturday.

Algonquin was too much for the Grizzlies to handle defeating Georgian 65-23. Agnes Bartosik led the Grizzlies with six points while also posting eight rebounds.

Both the men's and women's teams will return home for a game this Friday night, February 8 when they host the Cambrian Golden Sheild at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Georgian College Athletic Centre in Barrie.
