CAMBRIAN 59, GEORGIAN 48

A good start from the Grizzlies wasn't enough to overcome the visiting Cambrian Golden Shield Sunday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

The women's basketball game originally scheduled for Friday night was postponed to Sunday due to the snowstorm that hit the region.

The Grizzlies were firing out of the gate early going on a 7-0 run to start the first quarter and led 14-8 after one frame.

In the second quarter there was a reversal of fortunes for the two teams and it was a hole the Grizzlies couldn't climb out of.

Cambrian was red hot, hitting shots at almost every turn and outscoring the Grizzlies 28-10 to hold a 36-24 lead at halftime.

Georgian wasn't about to give up, battling back through the third and fourth quarters. Barrie native Agnes Bartosik hit a clutch shot late to pull the Grizzlies within four points, but that was as close as they came falling 59-48.

Cambrian freshman Chantal McMahon was the story of the game putting up a game-high 27 points and leading her team to a three-game winning streak.

Kara Faulkner and Mackenzie Merkley each had 12 points for the Grizzlies while Agnes Bartosik had her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Grizzlies are in the home stretch of their season as they host George Brown Wednesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. and wrap up against the Fleming Knights Saturday, February 16 at 1 p.m.
