MOHAWK 75, LAMBTON 37

HAMILTON, Ont. - They both lost their first game of the season. Now Mohawk's men's and women's basketball teams are each riding four-game win streaks in the OCAA.

The Mountaineer women led Lambton 7-0 out of the gate, bumped that to 14-2 and went on to a 75-37 decision at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre on Friday.

Stef Hrymak and Jen Jen Abella both scored 16 points for the Mountaineers. Shanien O'Neill had 14 points and five assists and Katelyn Arbour contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For Lambton, Amanda Orr scored nine points while Riley Williams and Melissa Ellis each had eight. Christine Fleischer pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lions, who saw their record fall to 0-5.

Meanwhile, the Mohawk men got off to a shaky start, trailing 9-2, but they reduced the deficit to two points after the first quarter, en route to a 101-90 victory over Lambton in an entertaining contest.

Matt Fennell was at it again, scoring 35 points for the Mountaineers. Taylor Dowhaniuk had 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Matt Savel notched 16 points and nine assists and Andrew Cicuttini, despite getting into foul trouble, managed 11 points and 14 boards for the 4-1 Mohawk squad.

Brandon Padgett scored 21 points for Lambton, now 2-3. Shawn Hill had 18 and Jason Marshell added 14. Frank Benneh had 11 rebounds for the Lions.
