DURHAM 61, GEORGE BROWN 58

TORONTO - Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) played a major role in the Durham College women's basketball team's final game of the first half.

The OCAA leading scorer had 31 points in the Lords' 61-58 victory over the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday night.

Brittany Walters (Oshawa, Ont.) and Alyxandrea Francisco (Whitby, Ont.) each scored nine points for Durham, who were without third-year forward Kayla Marshall (Ottawa).

George Brown had four players in double-digits, yet were still unable to top Durham.

Cori Browne led the team with 14 points. Angel Mbikay, Melissa Vilar and Jessica Ramkeesoon each scored 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

After the first quarter the Lords trailed 16-5, but closed the gap to a point, 23-22, at halftime.

They tied the game 34-34 in the third quarter and after three were knotted 42-42 with George Brown.

Trading baskets to start the fourth and final quarter, the Lords went on a 5-0 run to open up a small lead. Eventually their late 6-0 run was what gave them the breathing room to hold on for the win.

The Lords next OCAA regular season action is Jan. 9 at home against Seneca, but next weekend they travel to Batavia, N.Y., for Genesee Community College's Holiday Classic.
