BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's basketball teams played their final regular season home games when they hosted the St. Lawrence-Kingston Vikings on Sunday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

It was a big contest for the men as the Grizzlies and Vikings were tied for second in the OCAA east division standings entering the game.

Georgian were able to capitalize on a shorthanded St. Lawrence team, who fielded just six players in the contest, to pull away with a 79-59 victory.

Teq Zwarych (Whitby, Ont.) had another fantastic match for the Grizzlies registering his 15th double-double of the season with team highs in points with 27 and rebounds with 17. Teammate Braeden Wilkinson (Ottawa) had a season-high 21 points in a strong shooting performance.

The win moves the Grizzlies into second place in the OCAA east division, one full game up on St. Lawrence and half a game up on the Seneca Sting who are one win behind the Grizzlies with a game in hand.

On the women's side it was a familiar face that torched the Grizzlies. Two-time reigning OCAA women's basketball player of the year Lacey Knox (Kingston, Ont.) scored a game-high 15 points to help lead the Vikings to a 74-40 win over the Grizzlies.

Georgian was led by Hannah Pearsall (Guelph, Ont.) and Mackenzie Merkley (Guelph, Ont.) who each had eight points.

Prior to the game Georgian recognized their graduating student athletes while wishing them the best in the future.

Graduating from the women's team are Merkley, Shelby Clark (Barrie, Ont.), Keshia Jacques (Owen Sound, Ont.), Lauren LaSalle (Minesing, Ont.), and Katie Wiggins (Belleville, Ont.), while on the men's side Georgian will say goodbye to Ivan Ivic (Barrie, Ont.), Andrew Clark (Pembroke, Ont.) and team manager David Eitutis.

Georgian will play their final regular season games this Wednesday when they travel to face the Centennial Colts.
