ST. CLAIR 62, MOHAWK 51

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk women's basketball team lost for the first time in the early OCAA regular season. The St. Clair Saints, from Windsor, Ont., traveled to Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday and scored a 62-51 decision over the Mountaineers.

Jaide Lyons led the Saints with 18 points. Shannon Kennedy scored 15 and Torrie Handsor had an excellent double-double, with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Only one player scored in double digits for the home side. Sam Pocrnic had 15 points. Jakayla Douse scored nine and added eight boards. Brittany Gazzola and JenJen Abella each had seven points for the Mountaineers.

Mohawk and St. Clair are both 2-1 in the West Diivision.

HAMILTON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team began a weekend road trip on Saturday with a 62-51 win over Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont.

The Saints started well in the opening quarter with an 18-10 advantage before losing a very low scoring second quarter (9-5), but still managed a 23-19 lead at halftime. St. Clair forced key turnovers converting them into easy buckets in the second half and shot a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line down the stretch.

The Saints had four starters score in double figures with fifth-year guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) leading the way with a game-high 18 points adding four rebounds and three steals. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph) scored 15 points to go with six rebounds and four steals. Forward Torrie Handsor (Wallaceburg, Ont.) had an impressive game scoring 14 points while pulling down 14 rebounds for the double-double. Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) continued her steady play scoring 11 points adding five rebounds filling the stat sheet with three blocked shots and three steals.

Mohawk's Sam Pocrnic (Oakville, Ont.) had 15 points in a losing cause.
