ST. CLAIR 87, ST. LAWRENCE (K) 69

WELLAND, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team won handily over St. Lawrence College (Kingston, Ont.) by a score of 87-69 Friday afternoon in the OCAA championship consolation semi-final being hosted by Niagara College in Welland, Ont. The Saints now face host Niagara on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the consolation final.

St. Clair took control from the outset in this game getting to the basket for easy opportunities and led 24-15 after the first quarter. The teams played even in the second quarter and St. Clair took a 39-30 halftime lead.

St. Lawrence made some strides in the third quarter with their highest offensive output and cut the lead to as little as six points. But the Saints responded with a push of their own and increased the lead entering the fourth quarter. From that point St. Clair was able to cruise to the victory letting the reserves finish the game off.

St. Clair shot almost 48 per cent from the beyond the arc and almost 45 per cent from the field overall. The Saints also enjoyed a nice advantage in rebounding (49-37) and points at the free throw line (17-9).

Fifth-year guard Jaide Lyons (Windsor, Ont./FJ Brennan) was named player of the game scoring 23 points and led five Saints in double figures. Lyons also filled the stat line with six rebounds, six assists and seven steals.

Third-year point guard Sarah Body (Amherstburg, Ont./General Amherst) hit five triples on her way to 19 points adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Second-year post Nicole Tamm (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) was efficient scoring 14 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.

Shannon Kennedy (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) and Rachel Duic (Belle River, Ont./St. Anne) each chipped in with 11 points. The diminutive 5-foot-4 Duic also cleared seven rebounds and dished out three assists while Kennedy just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

St. Lawrence's Haley Gourdier (Kingston, Ont.) had 17 points in a losing cause.
