MOHAWK 75, ST. CLAIR 60

HAMILTON, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's basketball team struggled down the stretch in a 75-60 road loss to Hamilton's Mohawk College Friday night and will now enter the holiday break with a 6-3 record in the OCAA West Division.

The Lady Saints were behind 20-16 after the opening quarter and trailed 34-25 by halftime. But a strong third quarter had the Saints almost pull even entering the final frame with Mohawk holding a slim 51-48 lead.

The teams were competitive for most of the fourth quarter but Mohawk pulled away down the stretch. St. Clair doubled up Mohawk in points from deep (18-9) but the home team capitalized from the free throw line shooting 85 per cent in the game scoring 10 more points from the charity stripe. The Saints also gave up 24 points on 26 turnovers and lost the rebound war 57-48.

Jana Kucera (Chatham) led the Saints in scoring with 13 points adding nine rebounds and four assists. Shannon Kennedy (Windsor/St. Joseph's) earned a double-double with 11 points and a remarkable 14 rebounds to go with two blocked shots for St. Clair. Saints rookie guard Jaimi Chauvin (Wallaceburg) chipped in with 10 points off the bench.

Mohawk's Hunter Johns (Kitchener) led her team to a win with a game-high 15 points adding 11 rebounds for a double-double.
