SARNIA, Ont. - At the end of her contract, Lambton College announced that Kendel Ross will not return for the 2021-2022 season. Leading the team into the fall season will be Sarnia native Janine Day.

Day is a local graduate of Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School and currently a teacher at Wallaceburg District Secondary School (WDSS). As an accomplished provincial, regional, club, high school coach, Day also served as a coach for the Red Deer College women's basketball team.

As the Ontario provincial team head coach at the U17 and U15 level, Day brought home four golds and a silver medal over multiple coaching stints.

Since 2003, Day has led the WDSS senior girls Tartans, who have not only regularly advanced to OFSAA, but won the provincial championship in 2018.

"I'm really looking forward to this exciting opportunity," said Day. "With the new facilities at the College and increased emphasis on athletics, I am excited about building the program even further."

Day, who played U Sports Basketball for the York University Lions from 1998-2002, was also named coach of the year by Ontario Basketball in 2012. She received the Coaching Excellence Award from OFSAA and a Developmental Coaching Award from the Coaches Association of Ontario during in 2010 and was inducted into the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

The Lambton Lions women's basketball team plays in the OCAA West Division. The team has qualified for the provincial championship tournament twice in the past five seasons.
