DURHAM'S COOPER HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S RUGBY SEVENS AWARDS

TORONTO - Durham College's Emily Cooper (Guelph) is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Rugby Sevens Player of the Year.

The second-year back is also the OCAA Scoring Champion scoring 29 tries for 145 points in 14 matches. Cooper played in every game for the regular season champion Lords (14-0) who won every match. Last season's OCAA Women's Rugby and OCAA Female Rookie of the Year is also an OCAA League All-Star.

The 2023 OCAA Rookie of the Year is Ryan Fitzgerald (Trenton) of Loyalist College. The freshman back scored four tries and was successful on 16 converts for 52 points as the Lancers climbed to fourth place in the standings after finishing last the previous season. Fitzgerald is also an OCAA League All-Star.

Kate Pasic of St. Lawrence College is the OCAA Coach of the Year. Pasic led the Surge to a second-place finish during regular season play with 11-3 record, a six-win improvement from a season ago (with four less matches being played). The Surge were also second in total points scored (279) and points against (138).

Joining Cooper and Fitzgerald as OCAA League All-Stars are Morgan Payne (Ottawa), Kari Read (Belleville) and Elizabeth Syptak (Ottawa) of Algonquin College; Maya Austin (Ajax) and Shay Morris (Ajax) of Durham; Hollie Phillips (Shannonville) of Fleming College; Mia Berry (Etobicoke) and Jada Fowler (Cheltenham) of Humber College; Elayna Reid (Foxboro) of Loyalist; Allesha Arsenault (Kingston), Megan McCleary (Ennismore) and Katelyn Neveu (Kingston) of St. Lawrence; and Olivia Hooper (Barrie) of Seneca College.
