HUMBER HAWKS TO REPRESENT ONTARIO AT CCAA WOMEN’S NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Nova Scotia Agricultural College is set to host the 2006 Mazda Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s National Volleyball Championship from March 10-12 in Truro, NS. The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) is pleased to announce that the undefeated Humber Hawksare set to represent Ontario at the Championships.

The 4-day event kicks off on Thursday, March 9th with the CCAA All Canadian Awards Banquet and play begins on Friday, March 10th at 1:00 p.m. and continues through Sunday, March 12.

The OCAA champion, Humber Hawks of Etobicoke enter the competition with an undefeated 17-0 record. Humber is no stranger to the national court, representing Ontario three times in the last ten years. The sixth seeded Hawks will start the showdown against the third seeded Malaspina University College Mariners from Nanaimo, BC on March 10th at 3:00pm. Leading the charge for the Hawks on the court will be Championship MVP Perfection Powell who averaged 4.5 PPG at the Championships. Meanwhile the Hawks bench boss Chris Wilkins who is this year’s OCAA West Coach of the Year & CCAA Coach of the Year Nominee will be looking to lead his team to Humber’s and the OCAA’s first-ever Women’s Volleyball National title.

The 2006 Mazda CCAA Women’s National Volleyball Championship features the top eight women’s volleyball teams in Canada. The Championship Seeding is below:

2. Grant MacEwan College Griffins – Edmonton, Alta.
3. Malaspina University College Mariners – Nanaimo, B.C.
4. Mount Royal College (MRC) Cougars– Calgary, Alta.
5. Collège Bois-de-Boulogne Cavalières – Montréal, Que.
6. Humber College Hawks – Etobicoke, Ont.
7. St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies – Fredericton, N.B.
8. Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC) Rams – Truru, N.S.
