The Niagara College Knights women's volleyball team defeated the Mohawk College Mountaineers 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24, 15-9), while the Knights men's team were shutout 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21) by their Hamilton rivals.
First-year outside hitter Lindsay Murray (Welland, Ont.) had a strong performance in the victory. The Notre Dame graduate had 24 kills and two blocks for a season-high 26 points. She also recorded 10 digs. Marieka Ouimette (Spencerville, Ont.) recorded 11 kills and one ace for 12 points.
The Knights women's team, who snapped a three-game losing streak, are now in fourth place in the OCAA West region with a record of 5-4.
Both teams will resume their 2011-2012 regular season on Wednesday, Jan. 11 when they travel to London, Ont., to take on the Fanshawe College Falcons. The women's game is at 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m.
