CAMBRIAN 3, NIAGARA 1 (FINAL)

BARRIE, Ont. - The Niagara College Knights women's volleyball team lost 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20) to the Cambrian College Shield on Thursday night at the OCAA championship in Barrie, Ont.

The Knights were able to jump out and take the first set against the OCAA East region champions, before the Shield won three straight sets to win the match.

Fourth-year left-side hitter Kelsey Fielding (Sudbury, Ont.), who was named an OCAA East region first-team all-star for her play this season, had 14 kills for 14 points and was named player of the game for Cambrian.

First-year outside hitter Nicole Schoonderwoerd (Tavistock, Ont.) led the Knights with eight kills, two aces, and four blocks for 14 points. Ava Sarkis (Welland, Ont.) had a strong game at the setter position and was named player of the game for Niagara.

"I think nerves and anxiety got the better of us," said head coach Joey Martins.

"Cambrian is a very good team and they have a tremendous coaching staff who know the game well, and have done a great job with their program."

The Knights will turn their sights towards winning a bronze medal at the OCAA Championship. They will face the tournament hosts, the Georgian College Grizzlies in a quarter-final match-up taking place at 3 p.m. on Friday.
