SENECA 3, LA CITE 0

One night removed from winning a five-set thriller, the Seneca Sting women's volleyball team took care of business quickly and efficiently this afternoon. With the La Cité Coyotes visiting Newnham Gym, Seneca dominated from start to finish in their three set sweep.

With a long drive in this morning, the Coyotes looked a bit tight early on as Seneca took the play to them for the first set. Offensively and defensively, the Sting were in control throughout the set and they cruised to a 25-13 win.

La Cité seemed to find their game in the second set as their offense began to click. A string of points midway through the set forced Sting Coach Shane Timms to call timeout and help settle his young team down. The tactic worked as Seneca returned to the court with a 15-14 lead and went on to pull away from the Coyotes to win the set 25-21.

The third set yielded very little in the way of suspense as Seneca jumped out to an early lead and maintained it throughout the set. La Cité scored two points in a row to close the score to 24-21, but Seneca won on the next rally, thanks to a big block.

Biance Newman was the leader offensively for Seneca with seven kills and five blocks.  Amy Sayaveth added five kills while Delia LeBlanc added two aces. Clare Weisser controlled the defensive side with 13 digs. LeBlanc and Ilka Prudencio each added five digs apiece.

The Coyotes were led defensively by Valeria Quintanar and Marie-France Cayer who each had eight digs. Ana Martin contributed five kills, an ace and six digs. Marilou Charlebois also added five kills and an ace for the Coyotes.

The Seneca Sting (3-1) will travel to play George Brown (1-3) Tuesday at 6 p.m. while the La Cité Coyotes (1-2) will travel to play Georgian (2-1) tomorrow at 12 noon.
