HUMBER 3, NIPISSING 0

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The Nipissing Lakers women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season as the defending OCAA champions Humber Hawks swept the Lakers 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-20).

The first set started in typical fashion as the Lakers and Hawks battled point for point until Nipissing was forced to call an early time-out with the score being 11-7. The Lakers then regrouped and went on a 7-3 run tying the match at 14. Both teams from this point on would exchange mini runs and with the Lakers facing set point setter Jade DeCoste came in to serve with the Lakers notching things up a 24. The Hawks would then side out and take the final point to claim the first set.

In the second and third sets the Lakers blocking and serve receive seemed to break down at moments during each set which allowed Humber to get on some runs that could not be overcome. The Hawks went on to claim the next two sets and claimed the 3-0 victory.

"Humber was the better team today," said Nipissing head coach Marc LaRochelle. "We struggled with our consistency and execution and we just can't do that against a quality opponent like Humber. We are a young team and we will go through our growing pains however this team has the determination and resolve to get better and I am looking forward to our next meeting."

The Lakers will be in action next weekend as they host Redeemer Saturday and St. Clair Sunday at the Surtees Centre beginning at 12 noon.
