ST. CLAIR 3, CAMBRIAN 0

The St. Clair women's volleyball team had a good weekend as they travelled to North Bay and played well in both matches.

On Saturday, the Saints defeated the Canadore Panthers by a score of 3-0 to earn their first win of the season. Game scores for St. Clair were 25-14, 25-23, and 25-7. Alee Brecka (Massey) had a solid match for the Saints with eight kills, two aces and six digs. Katie Zawyrucha (Sandwich) also had a good match with eight kills, three aces and two digs.

On Sunday, St. Clair took on the eighth ranked team in Canada, the Nipissing Lakers. After getting off to a slow start and dropping the first two games 25-7 and 25-15 respectively, the women bounced back to take the third game 26-24. Nipissing finished off the Saints in game four winning 25-18 to take the match 3-1. Brecka led the way for St. Clair with nine kills, two blocks and 15 digs. Rookie Helen Wiebe (Leamington) had a solid match as well with seven kills, one ace and nine digs.

The women are now 1-5 on the season with three games remaining in the semester. The Saints will have to string together some wins to get back in the playoff race in the difficult OCAA West Division.

The team is next in action on Sunday, November 25 when they host they Niagara Knights at the Healthplex at the Thames Campus in Chatham at 12 p m. Admission is free and all fans will receive a free hot dog and drink.
