SENECA 3, FLEMING 0

When all six members on the court are contributing for the Seneca Sting, they can be a hard team to beat. The Fleming Knights found this out Wednesday night when they traveled to the Newnham Gym. Seneca received a balanced contribution offensively and defensively from all seven starters to sweep the Knights.

The two teams battled back and forth early before Seneca picked up their play midway through the set. Seneca held onto a 20-10 lead and looked poised for a blowout win in the opening set.  Fleming mounted a comeback and closed the lead to 24-21 before the Sting closed out the set.

In the middle frame, Seneca once again looked to make quick work of the visiting Knights. The Sting by as many as nine at one point, but just like in the first set, the Knights mounted a comeback. Seneca finally closed out the set 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The final set was much more closely contested, as neither team gained much of an upper-hand.  Seneca kept the Knights at a safe four to six point deficit for much of the set and closed them out 25-21 for the sweep.

The Sting had five players contribute at least five kills with Amy Sayaveth (10) leading the way while Bianca Newman (eight), Allan Ferguson (seven), Kimberly Cedros (six) and Kendra Tyler (five) each contributed in the win. Newman also had five blocks to lead the match. Libero Clare Weissler led the Sting defensively with 13 digs with Cedros adding eight along with three aces.

Fleming's offence went through Claire Ball as she led her team with 10 digs. Jenna Bowler-Cooke added 12 digs along with teammate Taylor Lyford contributing 11. Nicole Deyell, Kristy Hill and Ball each had five digs apiece.

The Seneca Sting (5-2) will host the Trent Excalibur (5-1) Saturday at 1 p.m. while the Fleming Knights (1-6) will travel to play Georgian (4-1) Saturday at 1 p.m.
