DURHAM 3, BOREAL 0

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team earned two victories over the weekend, moving them a half game behind Trent University for first place in the OCAA East region.

The Lords opened up the weekend with a 3-1 win over Cambrian College, who won a silver medal last season and entered the game with a perfect 5-0 record. Durham dropped the first set 25-19, but clawed back with a thrilling 27-25 victory in set two. The green and gold would build off the momentum as they closed out the match with 25-20 and 25-21 set wins to earn the 3-1 victory.

Durham's defence did a good job of handling the top two scorers in the East Region, as Shawna Metcalf and Kelsey Fielding were held below their season averages of 5.1 and 3.9 points per set. Libero Colleen McRobert finished the match with 13 digs while outside hitter Allison Doris had 12.

Doris also chipped in offensively with eight kills, three aces and one block. Leah Saar led the Lords in scoring with 14 points including 11 kills.

Building on their victory over Cambrian, the Lords dominated all three games against Boreal on Sunday to improve their record to 6-1. Set scores in the match were 25-14, 25-6 and 25-10.

Durham's defence was once again the difference maker limiting Boreal to just seven points of total offence.

Kerri Fotherby and Leah Saar led the Lords with eight and seven kills respectively while Rayan Bourne and Justine Verkuyl each had two aces in the win.

Alex Albert led the Viperes (0-7) with two kills and two aces.

With their 6-1 record, the Lords are tied with the Golden Shield (6-1) for second place in the OCAA east region. Trent leads the division with a 7-1 record.

The Lords next action will be on Wednesday, November 28 against the Georgian Grizzlies (5-2). First serve at the CRWC is at 6 p.m.
