SENECA 3, LOYALIST 0

The Seneca Sting got off to a quick start in their first regular season match of the winter semester. The Sting easily knocked off the visiting Loyalist Lancers in straight sets to get above .500 on the season.

The Sting jumped out to an 8-1 lead right out of the gate before a timeout by the Lancers looked to slow the momentum. Unfortunately for the Lancers, Seneca's passing and attack game remained hot as Seneca took the first set 25-14.

A change in sides slowed the momentum as the Lancers played a much better second set. On this night, Seneca would not be denied though as they took control of the second set off of a number of big kills by Amy Sayaveth on the outside. The Sting would go on to take the second set 25-16 and take a stranglehold on the match.

In the final set of the match, Seneca setter Charito Humphreys showed off her arsenal of sets, distributing the ball to Sayaveth and Kim Cedros as the Sting jumped out to a big lead. Charito, playing in her first match of the season after recovering from an injury, made a great set with her team leading 23-8 to Sayaveth who hit one of the hardest kills of the match right at a Loyalist defender, knocking her off her feet. The Lancers mounted a small comeback to close the match to 24-12 before Seneca scored the final point of the match.

Seneca was led offensively by Sayaveth with nine kills while Cedros added eight. Bianca Newman and Febbie Valenzuela each had four. Defensively, Claire Weisser had a match leading 26 digs with Valenzuela adding 15.

The Lancers were led by Amy parker and Kristen Curtis who each had three kills. Jenny Richardson added two kills to go along with her 15 digs. Robyn Beauchamp also added 10 digs.

The Seneca Sting (6-5) will host the Cambrian Golden Shield (8-2) on Saturday at 12 p.m. while the Loyalist Lancers (5-6) will host Georgian (7-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
