CONESTOGA AT ST. CLAIR

The St. Clair College volleyball teams resume their regular season following the semester break on Friday, January 11 versus Conestoga College which will be airing live on Cogeco Cable television. Game time is 6 p.m. for the women and the broadcast will continue with the men starting at 8 p.m.

The St. Clair women currently hold a 1-8 record for ninth spot in the OCAA's West region. The Conestoga women are 3-7 while sitting in eighth place in the West region. The Saints suffered some tough luck in the first semester with some key injuries but hope to bounce back with a sold second half. St. Clair has added three new players for the second semester in hopes of shoring up their roster. The Saints have added former Windsor Lancer player Sara Yablonsky in the middle, former St. Clair player Mariah Ferris on the left side and Riverside graduate Harmony Krall as a Libero. Conestoga beat St. Clair 3-1 on Nov. 4 in Kitchener. The Saints are led offensively by fourth-year player Alee Brecka (Massey) with 2.6 points per game.

The St. Clair men are 3-6 and tied for seventh place in the very tight West region. The Conestoga men are currently 0-10 on the season. The Saints have two key additions for the second half that should provide a strong push for a playoff spot. Tom Charbonneau, a 6-foot-4 middle from Saskatchewan, and a transfer from Columbia Bible College in British Columbia and former St. Clair Libero Paul Wasyluk from Holy Names, will be in the lineup on Friday. St. Clair won their first semester match-up at Conestoga 3-1 on Nov. 4. Offensively St. Clair is led by rookie Connor West (Lethbridge, Alta.) with 3.7 points per game.

As part of the Cogeco celebration it is free admission to both games plus free Boston Pizza and a drink for all fans in attendance. A free draw will be held for a 50 inch Flat screen television. St. Clair College Journalism student Rick Dawes will serve as the Cogeco host for the in game crew of play-by-play announcer Steve Gomes and color commentator Dave Austen.
