GEORGIAN 3, FLEMING 0

The Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team has been on fire as of late having won four straight OCAA games and had a chance to improve their ranking with a pair of big games against Fleming and Trent on the weekend.

The Grizzlies headed into Peterborough Saturday looking to keep rolling as they faced the Fleming Knights.

Georgian was able to control the play against the home team Knights winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-14. The Excalibur were able to battle hard in the third set but the Grizzlies were able to wrap up the match with a 25-23 final set win.

Natalie Buck led the Grizzlies with 13 points while Veronica Harrison had five digs to help Georgian to victory.

The win set up a big match against the Trent Excalibur on Sunday.

Both teams knew what was on the line in this match as the Grizzlies and Excalibur were neck and neck in the standings.

Trent was able to make the first blow taking the first set, but the Grizzlies were able to strike back to take the next two sets to claim a 2-1 lead.

The Excalibur weren't about to give up this game and were able to battle back with a fourth set win to set up a big fifth set tiebreaker.

Both teams battled back and forth but it was the Grizzlies who were able to pull off a dramatic 17-15 set win to claim the 3-2 victory.

The win moved the Grizzlies into a three-way tie for second place in the OCAA East standings.  Georgian is now on a six game winning streak and have a 11-3 record on the season.

The Grizzlies return home this weekend for a pair of huge games against the east division leading Durham Lords (12-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. before hosting the Cambrian Golden Shield (11-2) at 12 p.m. The pair of games will have a big impact on the OCAA standings coming down the stretch.
