GEORGIAN 3, CAMBRIAN 2

After having their six game win streak snapped Saturday, the Georgian Grizzlies women's volleyball team had another big match when they hosted the Cambrian Golden Shield on Sunday afternoon at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

With only two points separating the two teams for second place in the OCAA standings the game had an early playoff atmosphere, and it was the Grizzlies who struck first.

It was an impressive start for Georgian who looked refocused and came out putting points on the board on the way to a 25-19 set win to get things started.

That momentum continued right into the second set with another impressive score of 25-13.

With the Golden Shield on the ropes, Georgian looked to go for the sweep but Cambrian showed why they held a 12-2 record coming into the game battling back to take a 25-18 set win to keep the game alive.

Both teams battled back and forth in the fourth set but again the Golden Shield were able to escape defeat and come all the way back to win the set 25-23 to set up a final tie breaking set.

In the final set Georgian took the game back over on their way to a 15-8 set win which clinched the match 3-2 for the Grizzlies.

Natalie Buck had a big performance for the Grizzlies leading the team in kills with nine and in digs with seven. The Grizzlies had an excellent game as a team serving putting up 21 aces from Buck, Mackenzie Roy, Allison Marshall, Kelsey Buckley, Hannah Campbell and Erin McClean.

The win improves the Grizzlies record to 12-4 on the season and puts them back into a three-way tie for second place in the OCAA East Division standings.

The Grizzlies will play their final home game of the OCAA regular season on Friday, February 1 when they host the George Brown Huskies with the women's game at 6 p.m. and the men's game at 8 p.m.
