REDEEMER 3, MOHAWK 0

The Mohawk men's volleyball team played giant killer at the Fennell Gymnasium ON Saturday (Feb. 9) when they knocked off the high-flying Redeemer Royals in a real barn-burner, 25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 19-25, 17-15.

Mo Sulaiman had another big night for the Mountaineers with 19 kills and four struff blocks. Marcin Jedrzejewski had 14 kills and one block, while his brother Bart had 24 digs.

David Klomps had 15 kills, two service aces and two blocks to pace Redeemer, which entered the match tied for first place with Niagara, but saw their record fall to 13-4. Mohawk upped its mark to 9-8.

The Mohawk women were swept by Redeemer, 25-13, 25-23, 27-25.

Redeemer's Curtiss Straatsma had a monster game, leading all players with 18 kills, five stuff blocks and 10 digs. April Passchier contributed seven kills and five service aces. Mohawk was led by Chantal Baker with eight kills and eight digs.

"Tonight we had our best match of the second half," said Mountaineers head coach Andrew Nicholson. "The girls worked hard on every point in sets two and three and with any luck we could have won both. We felt very good about ourselves tonight even though we lost."

Mohawk's record dropped to 6-11, whilke Redeemer improved to 8-9.
