LA CITE 3, GEORGIAN 2

The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's volleyball teams earned splits in each of their two games during their eastern road trip to Ottawa this past weekend.

The men's team opened with the East Division leading Algonquin Thunder on Saturday. The Grizzlies opened with a great set defeating the Thunder 26-24 but were swept in consecutive sets of (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) for a 3-1 loss. Lyndon Sonego continued his strong play putting up a team-high 20 points while Jason Grimm was also strong with 14 points including five stuff blocks.

Needing a win to keep pace in the East Division standings the Grizzlies rebounded Sunday with a 3-1 win over the La Cite Coyotes by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, and 25-23. Michael Vandinther had another strong game putting up 13 digs, as the Barrie native continues to lead the entire OCAA averaging 3.72 digs per set.

On the women's side, the Grizzlies found a tough battle against the Algonquin Thunder but were able to battle back from being 2-1 down to take the game to a fifth set tiebreaker which the Grizzlies were able to win 15-9 to take the victory three sets to two. Keswick native Natalie Buck was dominant in the game putting up 28 points including 23 kills.

On Sunday the Grizzlies women ran out of steam playing in their second fifth set match in two days falling to the La Cite Coyotes 3-2. Orillia native Allison Marshall led the team in points with 19, including 16 kills.  

Both the men's and women's teams wrap up their round robin portion of the season Wednesday with a trip to Seneca.
