FANSHAWE 3, LOYALIST 1

The Fanshawe Falcons women's volleyball team defeated the Loyalist Lancers (25-12, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20) on Saturday. With the win, the Falcons advance to the OCAA quarter-finals.

After trailing 5-1 in the first set, the Falcons stormed back to win with a 24-7 run, included eight points in a row with Shelby Charlton serving.

A tight second set saw eight lead changes. Loyalist battled back from a 22-18 deficit to steal the set and even the match at 1-1.

After being tied at 11-11 in the third, Fanshawe ran away with the set taking seven of the last eight points. The Falcons continued to push hard in the final set and came away with the victory.

Ashley Hosfeld led the Falcons with 23 points (18 kills, five aces). The top scorer for Loyalist was Chantal Cormier with 11 points (nine kills, one ace, one block).

With the win, the Falcons advance to the OCAA championship tournament next weekend in
Peterborough. In their quarter-final matchup, the Falcons will face Cambrian (17-3) who finished in second place in the OCAA East Division. The match is scheduled for next Thursday night at 8 p.m.
