GEORGIAN 3, FLEMING 0

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's volleyball teams continued their OCAA regular season's Saturday afternoon at the Georgian College Athletic Centre when they hosted the Fleming Knights.

The women's team was first up and they continued their impressive start to the season.

The Grizzlies controlled play from start to finish, sweeping the Knights 3-0 with set wins of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-14.

Last week's athlete of the week Natalie Buck (Keswick) had a strong game leading the team with 11 kills while second-year setter Katharyn Avery (Barrie) had an incredible 30 assists.

Georgian improved their record to 3-1 on the season with their one lone loss coming in a fifth set tiebreak last week versus Algonquin.

After dropping their first two games of the season the Grizzlies men's volleyball team showed Saturday that the group is coming together.

It was Fleming who got out to an early lead taking the first set 25-22, but Georgian responded and defended their home court taking the next two sets 25-21 and 26-24.

The Knights who entered the game with a 2-1 record wouldn't go down without a fight evening the game up with a 25-16 set win to send the game to a tiebreak.

In a match where both teams went back and forth the Grizzlies found momentum at the right time taking the fifth and deciding set 15-9 for the 3-2 victory.

Lyndon Sonego (Barrie) had a terrific game leading the Grizzlies with 25 kills to help improve their record to 2-2 on the season.

Both the men's and women's teams will travel on Wednesday to face the Seneca Sting in North York before returning to action at home next Sunday, Nov. 17 against the Canadore Panthers at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Grizzlies men's basketball team will also face the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. as part of the triple header.

All Grizzlies home games are free to watch and open to the public at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
