GEORGIAN 3, CANADORE 0

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian College Athletic Centre was a busy place Sunday afternoon as the Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's volleyball teams hosted the visiting Canadore Panthers from North Bay.

The women's volleyball team looked to extend their winning streak to four games and did just that against a tough Panthers team.

The Grizzlies controlled the game from start to finish with set wins of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17.

Erin McClean of Barrie continued her strong play for Georgian. The fifth-year veteran had nine kills in the contest to lead the team. Midland's Hannah Campbell had six serving aces and three stuff blocks in the contest.

Georgian has been red hot lately as it has dropped just one set in its last 10 to sit in second place in the East Division standings with a 5-1 record.

The men's team continues to turn out entertaining performances as they continually show their resilience.

The competition was tight against Canadore as the first set went to an incredible score of 33-31 with the Panthers able to pull out to an early 1-0 lead.

The Grizzlies turned things around taking the next two sets 25-17 and 25-14 to capture the lead, but the Panthers wouldn't give in taking the fourth set 25-20 to send the match to a fifth set tiebreaker.

In final set, the Grizzlies were able to pull out a 15-9 set win to take the match 3-2.

Lyndon Sonego of Barrie had another terrific match posting 24 kills and nine digs in the victory for Georgian. Rookie Matt Kerr of Wingham also had a solid match with 14 kills as he helped the Grizzlies win their fourth straight match.

Georgian now holds a 4-2 record on the season and they continue to climb the standings as they now sit in fifth place in the tight OCAA East Division.

Both the Grizzlies men's and women's teams will next travel to face the George Brown Huskies next Friday night before playing their next home game on Friday, Nov. 29 against the Durham Lords at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

BARRIE, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers women's varsity volleyball team lost their second game in two days to the Georgian College Grizzlies today in Barrie.

Coming off of a loss yesterday to the Seneca Sting, the Panthers were unsuccessful getting a victory as they lost in three straight sets to the Grizzlies. Again today, no one player stood out for their performance and player of the game was not awarded.

Canadore head coach Stefanie Hancock was not happy with what she saw the past two days. "I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of passion this weekend. The girls are satisfied with 'just being middle of the back and OK,' and it's going to be my job to find a way to motivate them to reach their full potential. We are nowhere close to where we need to be. Our goal is to make playoffs and we are not deserving of that right now."
