CANADORE 3, DURHAM 0

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Sporting their scrunchies for Retro Day, the Canadore Panthers women's varsity volleyball team schooled the Durham Lords in home game action in three straight sets today at the Education Centre gymnasium.

Canadore's top scorer was Liza Grennon with 17 points, including 12 kills.

After losing two straight games last weekend, the girls started off strong in home territory, winning the first set 25-17. They continued their push into the second set, winning it 25-16. The final set brought some challenges, as the Lords came back hard and they were ahead by a few points before the Panthers pounced back from that deficit, which is something they haven't been able to accomplish yet this year, to win 25-23.

Canadore head coach Stefanie Hancock says, "Today was the first time that we persevered when we were down. For me to ask five of our rookies to give 100 percent mental consistency through three sets is a lot, but today when things became inconsistent, they were the ones who kept a clear head and fought back. When our serve receive is on, we can run a speed and when we do that, we're truly hard to beat."

Canadore setter Lauren Kuehni scored the final point of the third set to win the game and also scored player of the game. Through three sets, she racked up an impressive four service aces. Kuehni was happy with how they played today as she told us, "It felt a lot better than last weekend, for sure. We all had great chemistry, which is what needs to happen in every game because when we click, we run great plays."
