DURHAM 3, LOYALIST 0

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over the Loyalist Lancers on Thursday night at the CRWC. Set scores in the match were 25-18, 25-15 and 25-13.

With the straight sets win, Durham bounces back to the .500 mark as they sport a record of 5-5 after 10 conference games this season.

The Lords used the majority of their line-up in the win with the exception of leading scorer Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) who was on the sidelines with an upper body injury. A total of 14 players saw action for the green and gold.

Durham would find plenty of holes in the Lancers defence as they had a total of 36 kills. Emily Gilbert of Whitby led Durham's attack as she recorded eight kills and one ace. The second year outside hitter also picked up five digs. Durham was on fire from the service line as they put away eight aces led by Natalie Manicotto (Winnipeg) who had a pair.

Libero Zinet Wright, who also hails from Whitby, had a good defensive effort with six digs in two sets played. Joelle Parnham (Orillia, Ont.), Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.) and Alysha Johnson (Whitby, Ont.) shared the setting duties as they combined for 33 assists.

Leading the way for the Lancers was Amber Rittwage who recorded six kills on 17 attempts.

Durham's next action will be on the road as they take on the Seneca Sting on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Sting are in first place with only one loss this year.
